WCSD Exchange Student Requirements
Washoe County School District provides many seats in their schools for exchange students by offering a means for the student exchange to be filled with new friends, a new learning approach and community enrichment. WCSD is very clear on their requirements for this opportunity, including the following:
- WCSD requires that each Counselor meet with Cecilia Mansfield for an annual exchange representative orientation training – the last training was April 1, 2015 – and if the counselor did not attend this meeting, they will be required to meet with Cecilia for a private orientation
- Each counselor must submit a Representative/Counselor/Coordinator Information Sheet to WCSD, which will identify the as the counselor of record for their student (only one counselor can be assigned to each student)
- Each host family must be identified prior to the student moving in with the first and following families using the Host Family Information Sheet (Host Family Info Sheet)
- Once all requirements are met for enrollment – history of grades, English proficiency, declaration of the student not having been in a prior exchange program, and proof of non-graduate status – WCSD will issue an Approve to Enroll Form for the high school Principal’s signature
- The exchange student must be registered, enrolled and in attendance on the first day of school – no exceptions:
- The student must have all of the required immunizations before they will be allowed to attend school as follows:
- 5 DTap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis) – 4 okay if last one given after age 4
- 4 IPV or OPV (polio) – 3 okay if last one given after age 4 and all 3 are the same type (OPV or IPV)
- 3 Hepatitis B
- 2 Hepatitis A
- 2 MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- 2 Varicella (or History of Chickenpox)
- 1 Polio Vaccine
- Washoe County recommended Immunization schedule
- Attendance must be a minimum of 90% – if the student fails out of school for poor attendance, their exchange will be terminated
- School Grades must be maintained at a minimum of a C in each class (not an average of all classes) – if the student fails out of school for not meeting grade standards, their exchange will be terminated
